While we
target yacht racing as a prime activity, we have many
other events that keep families coming back. Since it is
a self-service club, the dues are very low compared to
other Chicago area yacht clubs. In addition, Wolf Lake
has the advantage of getting all the wind on Lake
Michigan without the dangers of the big lake. Our
facilities include an all weather clubhouse, showers,
swimming beach, kids playground, large launching ramp,
hoist, 200 feet of docks, wet moorings for cruising
boats and plenty of grass covered grounds for picnics
and overnight camping and fishing.
Illiana Yacht Club
currently has Open Fleet racing:
Participants include
National
One Designs, Windmills,
and Lasers along
with various other sailboats. Other
classes are invited to participate in racing in an
"open" fleet (non-handicapped), and we do host
non-IYC Fleet regattas. Club racing is from Memorial Day
to Labor Day on Sunday afternoons. An awards banquet
concludes the season in November. IYC, Inc. is the ONLY
Chicago-area Club to conduct one-design dinghy
racing on a regular basis. We also sponsor a Youth
Sailing Program each summer.
